Cult-Worthy Tinted Lip Balms

Having a good tinted lip balm on hand is all you’ll ever need.

It’s one of the most versatile beauty products on the market. They pair beautifully with a smokey eye, bringing color to the lips without taking the attention away from the eyes. They are a great plan B if the lipstick you used to finish off your look feels like you tried too hard. They’re even great for your makeup-free days when you’re letting your skin breathe. Upon initial application to your lips, you can press a bit into the apples of your checks, under your cheek bones, and eye lids. The subtle wash of color adds a beautiful healthy glow to your face in under a minute.

Call me biased, but I collect tinted lip balms like Pokémon. I’m constantly on the hunt for a good tinted lip balm, even though I have enough now to last even my great great grandchildren lifetimes. In no particular order, here’s a the Holy Grail List of my favorite tinted lippies. Each product here has checked off as a 10/10 on quality, texture, distribution of color, longevity and price range. To sum it up, each of these lip balms blew my mind upon the first-ever application and I can’t imagine a life without them.

Maybelline Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Balm in “Cherry Me” – $4

Applies beautifully, lasts between applications, and it won’t break the bank. Personally I’ll buy 5-10 of these at a time and scatter them all over parts of the house, studio, my purses and my car.

Maybelline New York Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Balm, Cherry Me, 0.15 oz.

BITE Beauty Agave Lip Mask in “Smashed”, $26

This is possibly my favorite formula of all time. There simply isn’t another product like it. This is the holy grail lip mask that you wear to bed and wake up with the remains still on. “Tinted Lip Balm” is too ordinary a name for something extraordinary like this, and it would fit better in a section called “Things I Wan to be Buried With”, however it simply wouldn’t feel right if I left it out in this section all together. This is super emolient, leaves a beautiful glossy ‘just bitten’ red finish that is subtle, and it tastes exactly how you’d imagine anything labeled “agave” should taste. A literal spoon full of sugar (it’s made with real agave). It’s very emollient, and it stays on forever — it literally saved my life when I was in New York during the holidays when the forecast was in the single (and somethings negative!) digits. I don’t care how much this product is, I will continue to buy it until the day I die.

Tata Harper Volumizing Lip + Cheek Tint, $38, Sephora

Imagine blush for your lips. A beautiful soft strawberry color will give you the flushed look, and the blend of 100% natural ingredients that are packed with antioxidants and vitamins will fight free radicals, target fine lines and wrinkles, and helps retain moisture. Tata Harper is one of the Founding Fathers of the #aestheticskin movement, and investing in any of their products will leave no room for error in giving your skin the proper treatment it deserves. The formula is incredibly lightweight + tastes like strawberries.

BUXOM Powerplump Lip Balm in “Flushed”, $18

This is a good deal when it comes to the amount of product you get for your dollar. It’s chubby stick requires only one swipe that will leave your lips gently tinted + stained. The menthol acts as a temporary lip plumper and gives you the minty, tingling affect you’d expect with any lip plumping formula. If you’re looking for a lip balm with a matter look as opposed to the high gloss finishes, this Buxom chubby stick is the way to go.

Glossier Balm Dot Com in “Cherry”, “Berry” and “Mango”, $12 each or 3 for $30

Super moisturizing, and the smell is to die for. For the price, this stuff lasts a long time. The Cherry flavor leaves a matte finish, so it works really great as a cheek tint. My personal ranking puts the Berry Balm at #1 because it has a glossy tinted finish, but the Cherry + Mango don’t fall too far behind, as they’re both to die for as well. Glossier lip balm dot com’s are one of those things where if you ordered the wrong flavor in the mail… you wouldn’t be entirely mad about it.

Bonnie Bell Lip Smacker lipbalm in “Dr. Pepper”, $2.50

I mean, I’m probably stating the obvious, but I’m obgliated to pay my respect to this iconic, 90s cult-favorite that is still as popular today as it was 20 years ago. This Lip Smacker was the first tinted balm I ever used as a child (and got in trouble for because I wasn’t allowed to wear makeup) that I still love now. Dr. Pepper is nothing short of a glorious holy matrimony of tint, texture, moisture, taste and shine. As soon as the cap is popped off, the nostalgic scent will immediately take any 90s kid back down memory lane of the things that made their childhood so gosh-darn magical.

Burt’s Bees Pomagranate Lip Balm, $3.59

All natural, the color is subtle, and smells like true pomagranate. It’s also infused with pomegranate seed oil, which holds one of the highest antioxidant levels in comparison with other seed oils. Think about the nutritional value of an actual pomegranate. Your lips need that same love too!

Too Cool For School Dinoplatz Lip Balm in “Spilled Wine”, $15

Don’t let the dark color fool you. This balm’s purpose is to enhance the lip color you’ve already been blessed with. This jelly-like, bouncy texture is light and it feels oh-so-good on the lips, because it’s made from all natural ingredients. It has powerful anti-aging ingredients like argan and evening primrose oil, and leaves a beautiful glossy sheen on the lips. It smells divine, and will be tempting for you to want to spread it on toast after applying it to your lips.

Lipstick Queen Frog Prince Lipstick, $12-25

Technically this “lipstick” feels like more of a gloss-balm combination. Don’t let the green fool you! This lily pad-green PH lipstick reacts with the warmth of your lips and turns into a beautiful rosey pink that pairs beautifully with your natural skin color. It’s loaded with Vitamin E and Shea Butter that are great moisture barriers. Out of all the PH-color changing lip products I’ve tried (and I’ve tried a lot), this is by far the best brand.

Nivea Blackberry Shine Lip Care, $3

Loaded with shea butter and castor oil to keep your lips moisturized all day long in the driest weather. Blackberry extract, blackberry juice, strawberry and raspberry juice are antioxidants that fight free radicals and target fine lines and wrinkles around the lips. The results? A beautiful tinted sheen that enhances your natural lip color and will last all day long.

Frank Body Lip Tints in Cherry + Taupleless, $11.95/each (shop here)

This gloss-balm hybrid is multipurpose beauty item (we love a good multipurpose item) that can be used on lips & dabbed on the cheeks or eyelids. Made with coffee seed + coconut oils that will create a really natural-looking healthy flush that’s both buildable and packed with antioxidants to nourish the skin. Plus, it’s vegan + cruelty free!
