Red lipstick is no longer seasonal. A shade once reserved in the back of our vanities for special occasions is now a beauty staple you can find in pretty much anyone’s makeup bag. The phrase, “I can’t pull off red lipstick” has been reduced to an ‘old way of thinking’ mindset, because we aren’t limited by the same 5 shades that were inly offered to us maybe 20 years ago. Today, we have the luxury of living in a time where shopping aisles offer 500 different brands of 500 different lipsticks of 500 different shades of the same one color. It’s truly a phenomenon that we aren’t sick of yet another shade of red (or 10) hitting the market with every season change. We are spoiled with an endless range of reds to choose from, making it simply impossible for you to write off the color all together.
But with that being said, the downside of having options on options is that it’s overwhelming. Especially if it’s your first red lipstick investment and you don’t know where to start. I don’t blame you. I’m luckily at the age where I grew up with only a handful of reds available, and then I got to try all of the reds one by one as the cosmetic conglomerate grew bigger over the years. But standing in front of a shelf with all of the iconic red hues from just the past 10 years is overwhelming to say the least.
Fear not, my friends. The research has been done for you. Tried and true, old and new, here are the best red go-to lipsticks that will immediately put you in the holiday spirit, as well as carry the most confident version of yourself that you’ve seen, yet. Best of all? These colors are universally flattering for all skin colors.
